The Investor Forum on Sri Lanka's Digital Economic Growth (Investor Forum) successfully held yesterday (2025 October) in Melbourne, Australia, according to the government's vision to make the Sri Lanka's economy a digitally powered economy by 2030.
More than 70 people including government representatives, industry owners, regulatory institutions, university professors and investors attended the event.
The forum was organized by the Sri Lanka Representative Office in Melbourne, conducted by the Australian Ministry of Foreign and Trade (DFAT). Here also welcomed the Sri Lankan delegation who came under the Canberra Studies Programme (Canberra Fellowship Programme – CFP) for Digital Transformation and Economic Effectivity.
Addressing the occasion, Hon. Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne, explained the scheme to build Sri Lanka $15 billion as a digital economy by 2030. There also emphasized the need to handle the digital economy in this country on growing aspects of innovation, and growing aspects.
Also commenting here, Dr. Hans Vijayasuriya, President Senior Consultant and President of IT Representative on Digital Economy, explained the purpose of digital broadcasting of 5 towers in Sri Lanka and the importance of digital transformation through corporate strengthening.
Accordingly, Peter Ward, manager of Digital Teams (Digital Teams), sharing his experience of investment in Sri Lanka, showed that Sri Lanka is a more suitable and capable country for digital and economic partnerships.
At the end of the day, Hon'ble Deputy Minister Eranga Weeraratne, Dr. Hans Vijayasuriya, Prof. Shanika Karunasekara (University of Melbourne) and Shehani Seneviratne (SLASSCOM President) participated in the discussion on “Investing in Asia’s Next Digital Frontier”.
There, Sri Lanka had more discussions about the practical techniques of establishing Asia's digital innovation and investment hub.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Deputy Minister of Digital Economy, Eng. Eranga Weeraratne, outlined Sri Lanka’s strategic roadmap to build a US$15 billion digital economy by 2030, emphasizing inclusive access, digital literacy, and innovation-led growth. He was joined by Chief Advisor to the President on Digital Economy and Chairman of ICTA, Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, who highlighted Sri Lanka’s fivefold digital expansion goals and the importance of institutional strengthening to drive transformation.
The forum also featured insights from Victoria’s Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions, where Ashling James, Director of Digital Economy and Innovation Policy, underscored the state’s commitment to digital collaboration with Sri Lanka. Peter Ward, Managing Director of Dijital Teams, shared his success story of investing in Sri Lanka, reaffirming the nation’s strong potential for digital and economic partnerships.
The event concluded with a dynamic panel discussion on Investing in Asia’s Next Digital Frontier, featuring Hon. Eranga Weeraratne, Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, Prof. Shanika Karunasekara (University of Melbourne), and Shehani Seneviratne (Chairperson, SLASSCOM), focusing on strategies to position Sri Lanka as a regional hub for digital innovation and investment.
