Digital Ministry of Finance and Foreign Affairs jointly launches digital reforms of foreign services.

As another step in the plan to revamp public service supply, the Digital Economy Ministry has cooperated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism to accelerate digital reforms through foreign envoys by Hon'ble Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne and Hon'ble. Ministries of Digital Economy and Foreign Affairs Unite to Drive Digital Reforms in Overseas Services In a significant move to modernize public service delivery, the Ministry of Digital Economy, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, convened a high-level meeting to accelerate digital transformation across Sri Lanka’s foreign missions. The session was held at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of Hon. Eranga Weeraratne, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy, and Hon. Arun Hemachandra, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment.

The discussion centered on key priorities within the government’s broader digital agenda, including the full digitalization of foreign mission services, the introduction of integrated digital consular platforms, and the development of a globally accessible, user-friendly web interface.

Plans were also outlined to implement a cashless digital payment system and transition to a fully paperless process, especially for passport applications and official documentation for Sri Lankans living abroad. Additionally, efforts are underway to enhance the efficiency of systems related to compensation for foreign workers, all aimed at streamlining procedures and reducing delays.
