At Sri Lanka’s premier startup and innovation festival, Disrupt Asia 2025, Hon. Deputy Minister of Digital Economy reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to digitalization as a national priority for the next five years.

Hon. Eranga Weeraratne stated that digitalization is not just about government services; it is the engine that will drive our economic growth, foster innovation, and position Sri Lanka for global competitiveness.

The Deputy Minister emphasized the need to: Strengthen the startup ecosystem to retain talent and innovation within Sri Lanka, Shift from outsourced services to globally competitive digital products, Accelerate progress toward the $5 billion digital export target, from the current $1.6 billion. Events like Disrupt Asia play a critical role in enabling this transformation by bringing together innovators, investors, and entrepreneurs to shape the future of the digital economy.

The event was graced by the presence of Hon. Chathuranga Abesinghe, Diputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development; Mr. Waruna Dhanapala, Secretary to the Ministry of Digital Economy; Mr. Heminda Jayaweera, Executive Director of TRACE Sri Lanka; Mr. Mangala Karunaratne, Board Advisor of ICTA; Mr. Chandima Cooray, Board Member of ICTA; Mr. Sandun Hapugoda, Country Manager of Mastercard for Sri Lanka and Maldives; and Mr. Prajeeth Balasubramaniam, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of BOV Capital and Founder of LAN.
