මාලබේ පිරිමි විද්‍යාලයේ අලුතින් ඉදිකරන ලද තෙමහල් තාක්ෂණ අංශය පසුගිය දා නිල වශයෙන් සිසුන්ට භාර දෙන ලදී. මෙම උත්සවය බස්නාහිර පළාත් ආණ්ඩුකාර හනීෆ් යූසුෆ්, ඩිජිටල් ආර්ථික නියෝජ්‍ය අමාත්‍ය ගරු එරංග වීරරත්න සහ පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්‍රී අසිත නිරෝෂන එගොඩවිතාන යන මහත්වරුන්ගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් පැවැත්විණි.

මෙම ආරම්භය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ අනාගත දක්ෂයින්ට අවශ්‍ය අඩිතාලම දමමින්, තාක්ෂණික හා ඩිජිටල් ඉංජිනේරුවන්ගේ මීළඟ පරම්පරාව නිර්මාණය කිරීමේ නව පරිච්ඡේදයක් සනිටුහන් කරනු ඇත.

මෙම අවස්ථාවට විදුහල්පති සිසිර ගුණරත්න මහතාගේ ආරාධනයෙන්, කඩුවෙල නගරාධිපති රන්ජන් ජයලාල්, ශ්‍රී ජයවර්ධනපුර කලාප අධ්‍යාපන අධ්‍යක්ෂ සමන්මලී දිනමුණි, කඩුවෙල කොට්ඨාශ අධ්‍යාපන අධ්‍යක්ෂ අනුරාධා සමරකෝන් ඇතුළු සම්භාවනීය අමුත්තන් රැසක් සහභාගී විය.

The newly built three-storey Technology Faculty of Malabe Boys' College was officially handed over to the students recently. The event was held under the patronage of the Governor of the Western Province, Mr. Hanif Yusuf, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy, Hon. Eranga Weeraratne, and Member of Parliament, Asitha Niroshana Egodavithana.

This important initiative marks a new chapter in nurturing the next generation of technical and digital engineers, laying the foundation for Sri Lanka's future talent pool.

At the invitation of Principal Mr. Sisira Gunaratne, distinguished guests, including Kaduwela Mayor Ranjan Jayalal, Sri Jayewardenepura Zonal Education Director Samanmali Dinamuni, Kaduwela Divisional Education Director Anuradha Samarakoon, along with several dignitaries, also attended the ceremony.

The Ministry of Digital Finance and the United National Development Programme for Sri Lanka (UNDP) together signed a Cooperation Agreement for "Disrupt Asia 2025" (MOU) on August 20, 2025.

The United National Development Programme for Sri Lanka (UNDP) and the Ministry of Digital Economy signed this Agreement of Understanding (MOU) at the United Nations Center in Colombo.

Through this agreement, UNDP has been recognized as strategic collaborations of the Ministry of Digital Finance for “Disrupt Asia 2025”, known as the conference for Sri Lanka’s leading new entrepreneurs and innovation festival. This is a national level platform where innovators, investors and new entrepreneurs with vision.

For this was signed by Mr. Dhanapala, Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Mr. Asusa Kubota, Deputy Representative of UNDP Sri Lanka, Hon'ble Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Mr. Eranga Weeraratne, Senior Advisor to the President on Digital Economy, Dr. Hans Wijesuriya, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Marina Ten Madam, Mr. Fadil Bakir Markar, Head of Strategy Application Department of UNDP Sri Lanka - Digital & Innovation Team, Mr. Yasas Thalagala, Manager of Citra Lab - UNDP Sri Lanka Representative, and Citra Lab - UNDP Sri Lanka Digital & Service Planning Officer Deshani Senanayake Mr and Mr. Going also attended the event.

Through this collaboration, also emphasized that the UNDP organization is constantly cooperating with the Ministry, to achieve the goals of the National Digital Economic Plan in Sri Lanka.

Ministry of Digital Economy and UNDP Sri Lanka sign MOU to support ’Disrupt Asia 2025.

Colombo, Sri Lanka, 20 August 2025: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Digital Economy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) recently at the UN Compound.

The agreement recognises UNDP in Sri Lanka as a strategic partner to the Ministry of Digital Economy for ‘Disrupt Asia 2025’, Sri Lanka’s premier startup conference and innovation festival, where visionaries, investors, and disruptors come together. The agreement was signed by Mr. Waruna Sri Dhanapala, Acting Secretary for the Ministry of Digital Economy and Ms. Azusa Kubota, Resident Representative, UNDP in Sri Lanka, in the presence of Hon. Eranga Weeraratne, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy; Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, Chief Advisor to the President of Sri Lanka on Digital Economy; Ms. Marina Ten, Deputy Resident Representative, UNDP in Sri Lanka; Mr. Fadhil Bakeer Markar, Team Leader – Strategic Engagement, Digital and Innovation Team, UNDP in Sri Lanka; Mr. Yasas Thalagala, Lab Manager, Citra Lab – UNDP in Sri Lanka and Ms. Deshani Senanayake, Digital and Service Design Officer, Citra Lab – UNDP in Sri Lanka.

Through this collaboration, UNDP will continue to work closely with the Ministry in order to achieve the ambitious goals set forth in the government’s national digital economy blueprint for Sri Lanka.

A discussion on introduction of #OneRegistry technique to this country, in collaboration with the Government of Sri Lanka and the United Nations for Sri Lanka. For this, Hon. Minister of Government Administration, Local Councils and Local Government Dr. A. H. M. Mr. H. Abayaratne, Hon'ble Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Mr. Eranga Weeraratne, Presidential Advisor on Digital Economy, Secretary of Government Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government Ministry S. Aloka Bandara, Secretary of Digital Finance Ministry Varuna Dhanapala, Mr. Mark Andre Fransh, Resident Coordinator of the UN Development Program, Sri Lanka, Mrs. Asusa Kubota, Resident Representative of the UN Development Program, Sri Lanka; Registrar General W.R.A.N.S. Vijayasinghe were together.

This national effort can be considered as a key step in Sri Lanka's civil registration and the plan to digitally transform the key statistics (#CRVS) system.

#OneRegistry jointly implemented by UNDP Sri Lanka (United Nations Development Program) and WHO (World Health Organization) under the UN Sri Lanka SDG Fund is to create an inclusive, interactive and citizen centered platform for legal identity and public services. A major step in the forest scheme. Also this initiative was an important part of the government's digital economic plan and focused on reviewing the progress made so far, aligning on emerging priorities, preparing the next phase for implementation. Ministry of Digital Economy, in collaboration with the Government of Sri Lanka and the United Nations in Sri Lanka, convened a high-level stocktaking meeting on the #OneRegistry initiative. The meeting saw the participation of key officials, including Hon. Dr. A.H.M.H. Abeyratne, Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government; Hon. Eranga Weeraratne, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy; Hans Weerasuriya, Presidential Advisor on Digital Economy; S. Alokabandara, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government; Varuna Dhanapala, Secretary to the Ministry of Digital Economy; Marc-André Franche, Resident Coordinator, United Nations Development Programme in Sri Lanka; Ms. Azusa Kubota, Resident Representative, United Nations Development Programme in Sri Lanka; and W.R.A.N.S. Wijesinghe, Registrar General. This critical national endeavor is a cornerstone of our efforts to digitally transform Sri Lanka’s Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (#CRVS) system.

Jointly implemented by UNDP Sri Lanka and WHO Sri Lanka under the United Nations Sri Lanka SDG Fund, #OneRegistry is a key step towards creating a more inclusive, interoperable, and citizen-centric platform for #LegalIdentity and #PublicServices. This initiative is a vital component of the Government's Digital Economy Blueprint. The focus was on reviewing the progress achieved so far, align on emerging priorities, and shape the next phase of implementation.

රූපවාහිනී ඩිජිටල්කරණ ව්‍යාපෘතිය ඇරඹේ.

ඩිජිටල් ආර්ථික අමාත්‍යංශය සහ ජනමාධ්‍ය අමාත්‍යංශයේ සහයෝගීත්වයෙන් රූපවාහිනී ඩිජිටල්කරණ ව්‍යාපෘතියේ කටයුතු පසුගිය දා (11) ඇරඹිනි. ඒ අනුව ව්‍යාපෘති කළමණාකරණ ඒකකය නිල වශයෙන් විවෘත කිරීම ගුවන්විදුලි සංස්ථා පරිශ්‍රයේ පිහිටි නව ගොඩනැගිල්ලේ දී ගරු ඩිජිටල් ආර්ථික නියෝජ්‍ය අමාත්‍ය එරංග වීරරත්න මහතාගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් සිදු කෙරිණ.

එහිදී ව්‍යාපෘති කළමණාකරන ඒකකය නිල වශයෙන් විවෘත කිරීම සහ නව කාර්‍යමණ්ඩලයට පත්වීම් ලබාදීම මෙන්ම ව්‍යාපෘතියේ නව වෙබ් අඩවිය වන www.dttb.gov.lk දියත් කිරීමද සිදු විය.

ශ්‍රී ලංකා රූපවාහිනී සන්නිවේදනය නව යුගයකට ගෙන යමින් රූපවාහිනී විකාශනය ඩිජිටල්කරණය ව්‍යාපෘතිය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ආරම්භ කිරීමට සැලසුම් කරන ලද්දේ 2014 වසරේ වන අතර ඊට අදාළ අවබෝධතා ගිවිසුමකට ද අත්සන් කර තිබිණ. එහෙත් විවිධ හේතුන් මත සමාරම්භක අවස්ථාවලට පමණක් එය සීමා වී තිබූ අතර වසර 11 ගත වුවද අදවන තෙක් එහි ආරම්භයක් දක්නට නොලැබිණ.

ඒ අනුව වර්තමානයේ දී ජනාධිපතිවරයාගේ මඟපෙන්වීම යටතේ මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතිය කඩිනම් කිරීමට ඩිජිටල් ආර්ථික අමාත්‍යංශය හා ජනමාධ්‍ය අමාත්‍යංශය කටයුතු කර තිබේ.

රූපවාහිනී ඩිජිටල්කරණ ව්‍යාපෘතිය නරඹන්නන් සහ රජය යන පාර්ශව තුනටම ප්‍රතිලාභ අත්වන ව්‍යාපෘතියක් වන අතර මෙමඟින් රූපවාහිනී සංඥා දුර්වලතා ඉවත්වීම නිසා ප්‍රේක්ෂකයන්ට පැහැදිළි දසුන් සහිත වැඩසටහන් නැරඹීමට මෙන්ම සියලුම නාලිකා ග්‍රහනය කරගැනීමේ හැකියාවද හිමි වේ. මෙම අවස්ථාවට ඩිජිටල් ආර්ථික අමාත්‍යංශ වැඩබලන ලේකම් වරුණ ධනපාල, ශ්‍රී ලංකා විදුලි සංදේශන නියාමන කොමිෂන් සභාවේ අධ්‍යක්ෂක ජෙනරාල් බන්දුල හේරත් මහතා සහ අමාත්‍යංශ නිලධාරීන්, රාජ්‍ය මාධ්‍ය ආයතන ප්‍රධානීන් ඇතුළු පිරිසක් එක්ව සිටියහ.

Work Commences on the Digitalization of Terrestrial Television Broadcasting (DTTB) Project

With the collaboration of the Ministry of Digital Economy and the Ministry of Mass Media, activities of the Digitalization of Terrestrial Television Broadcasting (DTTB) Project commenced on the 11th. Accordingly, the Project Management Unit was officially declared open at the new building located within the premises of the Broadcasting Corporation, under the patronage of Hon. Eranga Weeraratne, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy.

At this occasion, the Project Management Unit was officially opened, appointments were presented to the new staff, and the project’s new website, www.dttb.gov.lk, was launched.

Plans to launch the DTTB Project in Sri Lanka, which aims to usher the country’s television communication into a new era, were made as far back as 2014, along with the signing of the relevant Memorandum of Understanding. However, due to various reasons, the project remained at the ceremonial stage only, and even after 11 years, no actual commencement was seen. Under the guidance of the President, the Ministry of Digital Economy and the Ministry of Mass Media have now taken steps to expedite the project.

The DTTB Project is one that will benefit viewers, the government, and broadcasters alike. With the elimination of signal weaknesses, viewers will be able to watch programs with clearer visuals and also gain the ability to receive all channels.

The occasion was attended by Acting Secretary to the Ministry of Digital Economy, Waruna Sri Dhanapala; Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, Bandula Herath; ministry officials; and heads of state media institutions, among others.

Discussions have been conducted with "The Program on Artificial Intelligence in Singapore" (AI Singapore), which is implemented at the National University of Singapore, to explore the opportunities for active partnership and sharing knowledge that can be contributable to the strategic objectives in Sri Lanka for the development of Artificial Intelligence.

A proposal has been submitted in respect of signing a memorandum of understanding to be formalized the cooperation between two countries. Thereby, it is expected to commence joint research for the development of artificial intelligence technologies, conduct artificial intelligence programs, and create mutual cooperation to address local and global challenges. Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by His Excellency, the President, in his capacity as the Minister of Digital Economy, to sign the proposed memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Digital Economy and the National University of Singapore.

කෘත්‍රිම බුද්ධිය සංවර්ධනය සඳහා වන ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ උපාය මාර්ගික පරමාර්ථයන්ට දායක විය හැකි සජීවී හවුල්කාරිත්වය සහ දැනුම හුවමාරු කර ගැනීමේ අවස්ථා සොයා බැලීම සඳහා සිංගප්පූරුවේ ජාතික විශ්ව විද්‍යාලය යටතේ ක්‍රියාත්මක "සිංගප්පූරු කෘත්‍රිම බුද්ධිය පිළිබඳ වැඩසටහන" (AI Singapore) සමඟ සාකච්ඡා පැවති අතර ඒ සඳහා දෙරට අතර සහයෝගිතාව විධිමත් කිරීම පිණිස අවබෝධතා ගිවිසුමක් අත්සන් තැබීමට යෝජනාවක් ඉදිරිපත් විය, එමගින් දේශීය හා ගෝලීය අභියෝගවලට මුහුණදීමට හැකිවන පරිදි, කෘත්‍රිම බුද්ධි තාක්ෂණයන් සංවර්ධනය කිරීම සඳහා වන ඒකාබද්ධ පර්යේෂණ ඇරඹුම් සිදු කිරීම, කෘත්‍රිම බුද්ධිමය වැඩසටහන් පැවැත්වීම හා අන්‍යෝන්‍ය සහයෝගය ඇති කර ගැනීම අරමුණු කර ඇත.

ඒ අනුව, ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ඩිජිටල් ආර්ථික අමාත්‍යාංශය සහ සිංගප්පූරුවේ ජාතික විශ්ව විද්‍යාලය අතර යෝජිත අවබෝධතා ගිවිසුම අත්සන් තැබීම පිණිස ඩිජිටල් අමාත්‍යවරයා වශයෙන් ජනාධිපතිවරයා ඉදිරිපත් කළ යෝජනාව සඳහා අමාත්‍ය මණ්ඩලයේ අනුමැතිය හිමිව තිබේ.

A press conference today (14) showing the growth and success of GovPay, the official state digital payment platform in Sri Lanka operated under the guidance of the Information Technology Representative (ICTA), LankaPay and the Ministry of Digital Finance, Mr. Eranga Weerarathne Held at ICTA under the leadership. In the meeting, the pilot project of the local traffic fine payment system (online traffic fine payment system), also marked the official launch of the enhanced GovPay.lk website.

The enhanced GovPay.lk website was also launched in the press conference, it consists of better user interface and up-to-date indicators (real-time dashboards) to get better idea of transaction scales and corporate performance.

ICTA and the Ministry of Digital Finance urges all state institutions to integrate with GovPay to improve service provision, boost transparency, and reduce operation costs. Requested every company to name a coordination officer and immediately start the process of joining GovPay. Citizens too, GovPay requested here to be interested in making payments to state institutions using banks or FinTech Apps via platform. These services are now available on a 24/7 foundation through a safe and simple process, designed with ease and accountability daily transactions.

At the event, the Secretary of Digital Finance Ministry Varuna Dhanapala, Senior Advisor of President Dr. Hans Wijesuriya, CEO of ICTA (working) Sanjaya Karunasena, ICTA Board of Director Harsha Purasinghe, CEO of LankaPay Channa de Silva were together.

GovPay Crosses 50 Organisations and Announces Plans for the Future of Government Digital Payments A press conference was held today (14 July 2025) at the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) to showcase the progress and achievements of GovPay—Sri Lanka’s official government digital payment platform. Operated under the joint stewardship of ICTA, LankaPay, and the Ministry of Digital Economy, the event was held under the patronage of Hon. Eranga Weeraratne, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy. The briefing also highlighted the pilot rollout of the online traffic fine payment system and marked the official launch of the revamped GovPay.lk website.

ICTA also unveiled the revamped GovPay.lk website at the media briefing, which now includes an enhanced user interface and real-time dashboards for better visibility of transaction volumes and institutional performance. ICTA and the Ministry of Digital Economy urged all government institutions to integrate with GovPay to improve service delivery, increase transparency, and reduce operational burdens. Institutions are encouraged to nominate a focal point and begin onboarding immediately.

Citizens are also encouraged to make their government payments through the GovPay platform via Banks or FinTech Apps, where services are now available 24/7 with a secure and simple process , designed to bring convenience and accountability to everyday transactions.
